Hello – I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Ours was good. Saturday was a long run – 21 miles. It was hot and hard and honestly I was soooo happy to be finished with it. It was a muggy and warm morning down here. Saturday afternoon was off to Gainesville to what the Gators play football. Great close game against LSU.
I get asked all the time how can I eat chocolate and other indulgences as I have quite the sweet tooth. Here are some rules that I live by:
Do you eat clean, healthy, unprocessed foods 90 percent of the time? Strive to eat healthy 90 percent of the time and then the 10 percent that you choose not to, won’t be the end of the world. Majority rules. Your body will reflect your habits both in appearance and in how you feel.
You have to work out hard. Reading or watching television while on the treadmill or eliptical and just going through the motions isn’t working hard! You have to push yourself. Lift heavy, run faster or longer, sweat, raise that heart rate! You have to burn calories and make your work out count. A piece of chocolate will not change your body, if you push yourself during your workouts.
3. Don’t Deprive Yourself
Depriving yourself can at times lead to binging. Instead of eliminating that certain unhealthy favorite, see if you can add something healthy instead. Perhaps drink more water, eat more vegetables, increase your protein. Can you move more during the day? It is easier to increase healthy things than eliminate those unhealthy choices.
4. Remember you are human after all
We are human and cravings a perfectly normal. You can’t eliminate them forever. You have to live your life after all, right? Enjoy an occasional indulgence, but keep the majority clean and healthy.
I work for my indulgences. Work for yours! Run an extra mile or two, or take an extra exercise class, or an extra weight session in the gym. then you will feel like you earned your treat.
So, yes, it is possible to eat chocolate, or ice cream, or pizza, or whatever that particular favorite of yours is, as long as you make these things your lifestyle.
Have a healthy day and your comments are greatly appreciated. I love hearing from you.
